Cupcakes with friends...

Pictures with Mama and Dada

We once again took 200 pics and didn't get a single family shot, so here are some pics of Lucas with his mama and dada... I know he'll enjoy them someday.

Lucas got a little shy when everyone was looking at him...

Mama giving Lucas the blue cupcake of his choice.

Hey, here we are all together!
A special moment with Mama....

I love my little Lucas!

Having fun with Dada

Lucas and the Balloons

Lucas really enjoyed his birthday balloons. We got 6 green, 6 blue, and 1 pink (for Sophie). He took about half of them home and had so much fun playing with them all wknd. After the helium ran out he invented a game with Jeff where they would hit it up in the air and then he'd catch it and look at Jeff for him to say, "good catch Lucas!"

Lucas doing what he loves most at the park - goofing off in the dirt.

Ouch, a boo-boo!

"Hey Naomi, think some pinestraw will make my boo-boo feel better?"

Opening Presents!

After a long nap Lucas enjoyed opening his presents...

"Hurry Mama, I want to open this one!"

The Mr. Potato Head from Blane was a huge hit!
We had to open each gift after he unwrapped it and play with it for 15 min : )

"Blue arms. Pink ears."

Lucas got a lot of art type gifts, which I think is great and he seems to love. He played with his new clay and clay molds for an hour last night at his new art table.
"Wow, the moon!"

Couldn't wait to get dressed before playing with Mr. Potato Head again.

Wrestling with Dada before bed.. what a great way to end the day!

Happy Birthday Lucas! (the invitation)

Cupcakes are green, cupcakes are blue,
Come celebrate Lucas turning two!

Where have we been?

Hello! So it's been about 10 days since our last post and you are wondering if we fell off the face of the earth. Well, we almost did... at least it has felt like it! On Monday, April 1st, I had a scratchy throat that quickly turned into what I was sure was the flu. I had aches and pains, fever of 102 and was nauseous. I laid in bed for 4 days before my fever broke, but after the fever came the cough from hell. I was coughing so badly that I couldn't catch my breath and the drainage was making me my belly hurt even more. By this time I had lost 5lbs. The day before this cough came on Lucas woke up with a fever. This couldn't have happened at a worse time because his 2nd birthday was on Friday, April 4th and my 31st was on Saturday, April 5th. The day before Lucas's birthday we made the decision to postpone his party until the next week. His actual birthday and my birthday came and went without much of a celebration. Lucky for us Jeff didn't get sick until today, so he was healthy and was able to take care of us. Lucas and I laid on the couch for 5 days while he brought us soup, crackers, water and ginger ale. He did all of the cooking and cleaning last week by himself. I think I'll scream if I have to watch another episode of Baby Einstein, The Wiggles, or Finding Nemo anytime soon, but we were able to get 2 movies in over the weekend. It rained and rained and rained all wknd, so it ended up being great that we canceled the party. Another great thing is that we never just veg out and watch movies all wknd without doing chores at the same time, so it was really nice to reconnect and just hang out all wknd. It certainly reminded me of how lucky I am to be married to Jeff!

Today was the first day that I felt almost better... just in time for Jeff to get sick! Lucas's party is tomorrow and we aren't sure if he's going to go or not. We're hoping he gets a good night's sleep and can suck it up for an hour or so in the morning. He doesn't have a fever yet, so that's a good sign.

There's nothing like being sick to make you realize how wonderful it is to be healthy! Thanks for thinking of us... we're back!

Meet Baby Schrades!

We had our 1st trimester screening ultrasound this week and got to see our tiny baby for the second time. The first time was at about 8wks and it didn't resemble a baby at all... this time we got to see it's cute little profile, wiggly arms and legs, and cute little belly. We were hoping to find out the gender, but the technician said that it was too early and she didn't really even try that hard to tell. She did move the camera over the baby's bottom half and said that she didn't see "anything", but that that didn't mean that it was a girl. Our next and last ultrasound is on May 6th, so we'll get another shot then. Jeff definitely thinks it's a boy - he even said the picture below looks like a boy. I think I'm leaning towards thinking it's a girl because 1) the u/s technician didn't see anything the other day and Lucas was just one week farther along when we found out he was a boy 2) I've felt sicker this 1st trimester than with Lucas 3) I swear my hips got too wide for my jeans when I was only 6 wks pregnant!

The gender stuff is fun, but the important thing is that so far this baby looks healthy. I am more concerned with the health of this baby than I was with Lucas because I don't feel like I was as strong when I got pregnant this time. I'm sure every mom of a toddler that gets pregnant feels this way, so I'm sure it's fine. Also, I had a fever for 5 days in a row last week, which makes me nervous. The doctor said that the baby is well protected, but I had to take some OTC drugs and I'm kind of freaking out about it. It was either that or keep having a fever and feeling nauseous and not eating (I lost 5lbs while sick), so I opted for the drugs. Again, I'm sure I'm not the first, but I feel bad because I didn't stray at all from the guidelines when I was pregnant with Lucas.

Anyway, meet our tiny Baby Schrades...

Baby Journal

March 14th, 2008
The day has finally arrived! I have been waiting to hear this baby's little heartbeat since the moment I knew that I was pregnant. The appointment was going to be even more fun because we were meeting with Kim, the midwife that helped deliver Lucas.

After waiting another 1/2 hour in the waiting room we were called back. I had to pee in the cup and Jeff waited in the hallway. When I came out of the bathroom I saw that he was talking to Dr. V, the doctor that delivered Lucas. How fun! Dr. V recognized us and asked how our baby was doing.. then I think he asked if we had a boy or a girl. What??? He doesn't remember? How could he forget OUR delivery? : ) Jeff asked him this and he said that he remembered the delivery, but never remembered if it was a boy or a girl. Oh well.

They took my blood pressure and it as good... 110/67. I had gained 4 lbs since before pregnancy (118 to 122).

It's funny how the 2nd pregnancy is different than the first. We spent most of the appointment talking to Kim about how she'd been doing and how she and Jeff we both training for triathlons. She examined me and did the u/s, but that lasted only about 5 min! Even though it was short, it was still amazing. She didn't have the volume up, so we didn't hear the h/b, but we got to see it. She said that I was measuring 9 wks, which surprised me because I had calculated that I was only 8wks pregnant. She said that insurance pays for an extensive u/s now at 13wks and that i should definitley do it. We said our good-byes and scheduled the next u/s for April 10th. The countdown begins...

March 10th, 2008
I debated all wknd about whether I should schedule the u/s for Monday morning, but figured we'd wait until the end of the week. This time is easier for us to sneak away from work and they would have my blood results back by then. I figure I'm lacking in calcium and iron since Lucas is still nursing, so I want to talk to them about that. Dang, I'm so impatient!

March 7th, 2008
Our first appointment! I was so excited to be starting this baby stuff over again. I love our OB practice and couldn't wait to see them again. Our excitement faded as we were reminded how we always have to wait at this place. 45 min after we arrived we were called back. Our excitemend faded even more as they told me that this was just the nurse visit where they take blood and tell me all about being pregnant. As the nurse told me what to expect I was thinking, "Seriously? Do you records not show that I just did this!!!"

At the advice of the lady that took by blood pressure, I told the nurse that I thought I was 7wks pregnant, but wasn't positive because my cycle wasn't normal yet. I told her that I thought I should get an u/s to make sure. She said that they actually do an u/s at this first visit, but they were short on staff and that I'd have to come back the next week. ugh!!!

March 5th, 2008
I feel better! It must have been a 24 hour bug because I feel normal again. Thank goodness!!!

March 4th, 2008
Oh my gosh, I am SO sick! I can't believe it. I thought this pregnancy was going to be smooth sailing like my first one. I described the way I felt to Jeff as the feeling you have after a night where you drank too much in college and said you would never drink again. Oh man, this kind of stinks.

March 1st, 2008
We are officially 6wks pregnant. I am feeling exactly like I did the first time I was pregnant! I am mildly nauseous, especially when I think about most foods. When it comes time to prepare dinner I often change what I was planning on cooking because it sounds gross. I swear I'm starting to show, but I'm pretty sure it's just bloating. I look normal in the morning and pregnant at the end of the day. I've gotten out the bella band, but haven't had to use it yet.

Feb 16th, 2008
Today we found out that we are pregnant! It was kind of a surprise since it happened so quickly. Here is the story...

It took me about 20 months to ovulate after having Lucas. We got pregnant two months later. We had always said we'd start trying when he was around two, and since we were able to a little earlier than two, we just went with that. On Feb 15th I was one day late, but had convinced myself that my body wasn't on a normal cycle yet and that I wasn't pregnant. In the meantime Jenn was also thinking she was pregnant, so we were talking about it a little bit. Feb 16th was on a Saturday and Lucas and I had a birthday party to go to. We were ready a little early, so I decided we'd run by Target and get a pregnancy test... and a latte if I wasn't pregnant. Once I bought the test I knew that I couldn't wait 3-4 hours to take it, so Lucas and I parked our buggy in front of the bathroom and went in to take the test. As the stick showed me that I was pregnant, Lucas sat on the baby changing table with his legs dangling. In shock, I told him that he was going to be a big brother and then we left and went to Lily's party.

I felt so many emotions... joy, excitement, shock, fear, anxiety...

At the party I reminded myself that I had to limit my sugar intake now, so as I nibbled on carrots I thought about how I'd tell Jeff. This was my opportunity to do something really neat to break the news to him! As it turned out, I am not that creative, but it worked out to be very special. Somehow Lucas went to bed before we ate dinner that night, so we got to sit down alone, which is so rare. I was still thinking of how I would tell him, but had figured that it wasn't fair to go more than 12 hours knowing without him. Jeff set it up by saying what a nice day we had had. I told him that it was a nice day but that I had something to make it even nicer. He looked at me with a puzzled look and I said, "yes, you know... come on... you know!" He was honestly confused and didn't know. He knew it was a possibility, but had shrugged it off as unlikely. All of a sudden his eyes got really wide and he said, "you're pregnant? no way!" (edited for the blog).

So that's how we found out about our sweet baby #2. We were kind of giddy the rest of the night as we talked about what we thought the gender was and what we thought we'd name that baby.

Bossy Lucas

Lucas and I take a shower together a few nights a week. He likes being under the stream of water just as much as his mama. If he isn't satisfied with the amount of water he is allocated, he puts his back against my legs and backs up as he is saying, "move mama. move mama"... until I am not under the water anymore : )

Show me your teeth!

Sleeping with My Boys

Although there are moments when I wish Lucas could put himself to sleep, some of the sweetest moments of my entire life have been spent snuggling with him... and it's even sweeter than Tyson is always there too.

Lucas Table

Grandma and Grandpa got Lucas this cool new table for his birthday. He likes to sit in it while he has a snack and watches The Wiggles. On Friday I was leaving for work and had just made myself an english muffin with peanut butter on it. I was carrying my breakfast towards the door and Lucas was hanging on me and whining saying "geggles, geggles." I thought he didn't want me to leave for work, but we finally realized that he wanted that english muffin so he could eat it while he watched The Wiggles! As soon as I gave it to him he turned around and, without even looking at me, said "bye"very casually. Little turkey.
Notice that he's eating baby food in the first picture. It's funny because he never really liked baby food when he was a baby, but now I guess it's cool to eat like a baby. I'm just happy he's getting some extra calories...

Lucas and Tyson are partners in crime. Lucas is constantly sneaking Tyson little bites of his snack, lunch or dinner. Tyson quietly accepts - of course!
