Coloring

Lucas has been having a lot of fun coloring lately. His interest grew in late August, right before pre-k started, when Jeff taught him how to hold the pencil properly. It was as exciting as a magic trick to him - one minute he had no control and the next minute he could color inside the teeniest spaces.

He is very particular, which he definitely (and obviously) gets from Jeff. He won't color something unless he knows what color it is supposed to be. So he'll look at the front of the coloring book for a picture, or he'll have me do an internet image search on my laptop and set it up in front of him. And he notices every detail, which I think is amazing (since I hardly notice details at all). For example, on the spongebob picture below, he noticed to color his little cheek pink instead of just coloring the entire sponge yellow.

This first picture below was taken just this morning. He was coloring while I was making breakfast when Inoticed that he had colored this tree in two colors of green. What is neat about that is that when Uncle Scott was here last week they were coloring a picture together that had a lot of grass in it - kind of like a jungle. Scott suggested that Lucas use different shades of green because the actual grass is not the exact same color everywhere. So when I asked Lucas this morning why he used two shades of green he replied, "So it will look great!"
Also, notice how serious and focused he is when he's hard at work...

What an engineer you have growing under your roof! Everything has to be to spec. :)
Katie is the exact opposite - she is a total mess when it comes to coloring (and everything else for that matter!)
